The panel set up by the Nigerian Defence Headquarters to investigate the killing of three police officers and a civilian by soldiers in Taraba state has arrived in Jalingo to properly commence the investigation.
The panel, led by Rear Admiral Ibikunle Olaiya, met with the state governor, Darius Ishaku, after arriving at the Taraba Government House on Wednesday, August 14, Channels TV.
Legit.ng gathers that following the meeting, members of the panel immediately proceeded to Wukari, Ibi LGA, where the incident occurred, and declined to comment on what they discussed with the governor.
President Muhammadu Buhari had ordered that the panel be constituted and instructed the Defence HQ to get to the root of the matter.
The unfortunate incident led to the escape of a suspected kidnap kingpin, Alhaji Hamisu Balla, aka Wadume; and the Army and police have been trading words ever since.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that one of the surviving police officers attacked by soldiers of the 93 battalion in Taraba state while taking a suspected kidnap kingpin to Jalingo, gave a blow-by-blow account of how he escaped death by the whiskers.
The operative, an inspector, disclosed that one of the soldiers had suggested that he be killed so as to truncate any evidence against them.
