Ibrahim Musa who is the spokesperson of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria has confirmed that the controversy surrounding the treatment of Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky in India has been resolved.
Channels TV reports that the IMN spokesperson gave this confirmation on Thursday, August 15.
The leader of the Shi’ite group and his wife, Zeenat are in India for medical treatment after a court in Kaduna granted their requests to seek medical treatment abroad.
El-Zakzaky had claimed being unfairly treated in the hospital in India and that the whole process looked like a detention due to the presence of heavily-armed men.
He called for a change of country for treatment suggesting Malaysia, Indonesia and Turkey.
Meanwhile, the federal government called on Nigerians to disregard the cry by El-Zakzaky, that he was being held in circumstance worse than he was in Nigeria.
The call was contained in a statement on Wednesday, August 14, by the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Information and Culture, Dcns Grace Isu Gekpe.
Gekpe said that in line with a court order, El-Zakzaky was approved to embark on a trip to India with state officials and his choice to be accompanied by his aides and personal doctors was not opposed by the government.
According to Gekpe, El-Zakzaky began to display ulterior motives against laid down procedures when he got to Dubai.
He was said to have demanded free movement and access to visitors of all kinds as well as requested to be allowed to check into a 5-star hotel instead of being admitted in the hospital.
The request was said to have been refused on the basis that he came into the country for medicals and not as a tourist.
