- Liverpool vs Chelsea UEFA Super Cup clash saw the Reds win first European title this season
- Blues boss Lampard believes his armies gave a good account of themselves despite the defeat
- Klopp's men won the match 5-4 on penalties after playing 2-2 in 120 minutes
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is full of praise for his Blues armies despite losing the UEFA Super Cup title to fellow Premier League side Liverpool in Istanbul.
Olivier Giroud opened scoring for the Blues in the 36th minute after few of their efforts had been denied by the wood-works.
Sadio Mane scored a brace to cancel the Frenchman's goal before Jorginho powered home a superb penalty to stretch the game into penalties.
However, Tammy Abraham, who had earlier won penalty for his side in the extra minutes failed to convert his kick during the shootouts and the Reds went ahead to lift the trophy.
After the manager, the club's legend turned manager said he was proud of his players having put up superb performance all through 120 minutes of the encounter.
He also pointed out the fact that Jurgen Klopp's men had more days to rest before the game, unlike his side that lost 4-0 to Manchester United on Sunday, and three days later, they played Liverpool.
"I’ve got nothing but pride in the team and the performance, and confidence in what that means,” Lampard said afterwards.
"It was a tough game against a good Liverpool team that had extra time to recover after the weekend. But sometimes football comes down to little moments of luck.

"Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham added an extra dimension when they came on and were unlucky not to score.
"Tammy needs to keep his head up because that’s part and parcel of being a top player.”
Meanwhile, Lampard specially hailed the contributions of Jorginho and N'golo Kante who bossed the midfield despite the quality of the Reds team.
"People keep talking about the young players at Chelsea," Lampard continued. ”Let’s talk about Jorginho and Kante, and I could name a few others.
"We’ve got a quality bunch in there, a really good group, and we’re working hard. I’m trying to instil the way I want to play and there were so many good things tonight.
"After Sunday, tonight was another level, and we were unlucky not to win. We’ve got three games now till the international break and we’ll try to win them all."
Legit.ng earlier reported that Liverpool are the champions of the UEFA Super Cup following their 5-4 victory over Chelsea at the Vodafone Arena in Istanbul.
Both Premier League sides failed to outscore each other having played 2-2 draw and settled the game via penalties.
Tammy Abraham who helped them equalise after Sadio Mane's goal was the culprit who failed to convert the last kick for the Blues after Klopp's men had gone ahead to score all five kicks.
