Nigerian Army appoints new commander for Boko Haram war, redeploys other top generals

- The Nigerian Army has reportedly announced new postings and redeployment of generals and commanders

- Bulama Biu, a major-general and commander of the Boko Haram war, was one of the top officers redeployed

- The reshuffle reportedly took effect from August 14

The Nigerian Army has reportedly announced new postings and redeployment of generals and commanders which centred largely around the counter-insurgency operations in the northeast.

Premium Times reports that the reshuffle, which took effect from August 14, comes amidst pressure on the military to end the 10-year insurgency that has cost the nation much hardship in human and asset toll.

Top officers affected in the latest exercise, according to the newspaper, include Bulama Biu, a major-general and commander of the Boko Haram war.

Biu, was replaced by AK Ibrahim, a brigadier-general who was transferred from the Army Headquarters to 7 Division Headquarters in Maiduguri.

Ibrahim was made the theatre commander of Sector 1 Operation Lafiya Dole and acting-general officer commanding (GOC) of 7 Division, the main formation overseeing the Boko Haram war.

Biu has now been transferred to Sector 3 Operation Lafiya Dole and Sector 3 Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) to act as commander for both units.

Others affected by the reshuffle included BA Akinroluyo who was moved from theatre command headquarters Operation Lafiya Dole to training and doctrine headquarters, Minna, for deployment.

Another major-general, CG Musa, was sent from Sector 3 Operation Lafiya Dole to training and doctrine headquarters, Minna, for deployment.

O Adeniyi remains in theatre command headquarters and appointed theatre commander.

Colonel IA Ajose was redeployed from 5 Brigade headquarters to training and doctrine headquarters, Minna.

Colonel OA Awolo was transferred from 707 Special Forces Brigade to 5 Brigade Headquarters and appointed acting commander there.

Colonel AS Bugaje was transferred from Nigerian Defence Academy to 707 Special Forces Brigade as its new commander.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Nigerian Army on Friday, July 12, decorated the newly promoted Lt.-Gen. Lamidi Adeosun, Maj.-Gen. Bulama Biu and Capt. Abubakar Danjibrin at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji in Kaduna state.

The officers were decorated by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai and the permanent secretary, ministry of defence, Nuratu Batagarawa.
