Taraba killings: Panel arrests 5 soldiers, 2 cops as investigation continues

The panel investigating the killing of three police officers and a civilian in Taraba state was said to have arrested two policemen working at Ibi police division over the incident.

Daily Trust reports that the two policemen were on Tuesday, August 6, arrested for allegedly leaking information to suspected kidnap kingpin Hamisu Wadume of plans to arrest him.

Legit.ng gathered that the arrested policemen were said to have been taken to Abuja for interrogation.

According to report, the panel had also ordered the arrest of five soldiers, who were on duty at Army check point. It was further gathered that two Army checkpoints between boundary of Wukari and Ibi local government areas have been dismantled. It was also learnt that the corpses of the three policemen and the civilian were moved from Jalingo to Abuja.

It was reported that 60 people alleged to be working for the suspected kidnap kingpin, Hamisu Wadume, are now on the run.

The report showed that those on the run included the manager of Wadume’s transport business as well as those who benefited from his generosity.

According to the newspaper, a source in Ibi said that some of them were working as drivers of commercial vehicles and motorcycles belonging to the suspected kidnap kingpin, adding that they disappeared two days after the killing of the officials.

The detectives, led by deputy police commissioner, Abba Kyari, were said to have sealed some houses belonging to the suspected kidnap kingpin in Ibi.

The newspaper reported that all attempts to contact the spokesman of the Nigeria Police Force DCP Frank Mba, on Tuesday, August 13, over the purported arrest were unsuccessful.

Also, the spokesman of the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu, was not reachable on his mobile phone number at the time of filing this report.
