The senior special assistant to the presidency on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, has provided the reason for Governor Yahaya Bello's absence at a meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and All Progressive Congress (APC) governors.
Shehu said that Governor Bello of Kogi was missing at the meeting because he needed to bury his step-mother, Madam Rekiya Momoh, who passed on recently, Channels TV reports.
Recall that Legit.ng had reported that President Buhari on Tuesday, August 13, in Daura held a closed door meeting with state governors from the APC.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, was also in attendance. The APC governors came in two batches with the first including governors of Ekiti, Lagos, Edo, Gombe, Kebbi, Katsina, Osun and Nassarawa states.
Earlier, Legit.ng had reported that the president expressed sadness over the death of Madam Rekiya Momoh.
In a statement issued by Garba Shehu, the senior special assistant to the presidency on media and publicity on Tuesday, August 13, President Buhari sent his condolences to the bereaved governor.
President Buhari, in the statement, wished peace for the departed and prayed to Allah to grant the grieving families the fortitude to bear the loss.
