Super Eagles superstar Kenneth Omeruo has parted ways with Europa League champions Chelsea to join Leganes on a five year deal worth £4.6 million.

The Nigerian defender who won bronze medal at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tourney in Egypt sealed a permanent move with the Spanish club having spent last season on loan with them.

During his loan spell, he made 28 La Liga appearances for Los Pepineros and was impressive in all the matches he played for them.

Chelsea on their website however confirmed the deal, saying: "Kenneth Omeruo has completed a permanent transfer to La Liga side Leganes.

"The defender returns to the club where he spent a successful season on loan in 2018/19, making 31 appearances.

"We would like to thank Kenneth for his service and wish him all the best for the future."

Omeruo joined Chelsea in the summer of from Standard Liege for an undisclosed fee, and subsequently spent time on loan in the Netherlands, Turkey, Spain and with Middlesbrough.

"He recently helped the Super Eagles to the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations, a tournament he won alongside John Mikel Obi and Victor Moses in 2013.

The 25-year-old defender made his national team debut for the Super Eagles in 2013, and the same year he won his first AFCON title.

He has made two World Cup appearances for the three time African champions - 2014 and 2018.

Omeruo on his part penned an emotional message to the club and their fans thanking them for how they have helped him grow over the years.

"I have nothing but Love for this club... Chelsea FC made my dreams as a child to become a reality.. thank you for an Amazing 7 years.

"Thanks to all Chelsea fans for the love.. thank you Eddie Newton you are an amazing coach and manager.
