President Buhari pledges to fight for poor Nigerians and strengthen agriculture

- President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed to elevate Nigerians out of poverty and strengthen agriculture

- The president made this known when relishing plans for his second term with Daura leaders who paid him a courtesy visit

- President Buhari also commended Nigerian youths on their orientation towards agriculture, saying the sector is a vital tool for job provision

President Muhammadu Buhari has reinstated his commitment to fight poverty and improve the living standard of the poor people in the country.

Speaking on Tuesday, August 13, when he hosted the leaders of various communities from five local government areas of Daura Emirate, president pledged to use the confidence reposed in him by Nigerians to eradicate poverty.

While thanking Nigerians for re-electing him, President Buhari also maintained that his second term will be used to deliver his campaign promises on economy and security.

He said: ''Truly, the people know and understand my mission. This is what the votes showed. The administration will dwell on our campaign issues — security, economy and corruption. We will fight for the poor.''

The president also pledged to appoint capable hands as agriculture minister in order to use the sector to provide job opportunities for Nigerians.

He also vowed to better the life of the Nigerian farmers so as to ensure massive production of foods, adding that he was impressed by the attitude of youths towards agriculture.

He said: “I will appoint a minister who knows agriculture and its role in providing jobs and growing our economy. You have seen how we broke the fertiliser jinx in the country. We will do more to better the lots of our farmers. Agriculture is our strength.''

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that President Muhammadu Buhari, on Saturday, August 10, sent a message out to all Muslims in the country in celebration of Sallah.

In the message, the president commented on vital issues in the country such as security as he urged Muslims on the need for peace, among other things.
