Lionel Messi has reportedly pleaded with Neymar secretly to reject a switch to Real Madrid and rejoin Barcelona.
According to Metro citing reports in Spain, the 27-year-old is set to quit Paris Saint-Germain before the end of the summer transfer window, with the French Ligue 1 champions now willing to allowing Brazilian international leave.
Barcelona’s chiefs are set to hold talks with their PSG counterpart on Tuesday, August, 13 over Neymar’s transfer with the La Liga champions ready to table Philippe Coutinho as part of the deal.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has reportedly attempted to Neymar severally in the past, but after failing to land Paul Pogba from Manchester United, Perez is keen on another top signing after landing Eden Hazard from Chelsea this summer by signing Neymar this time.
But Spanish sport daily Marca claim Messi has now stepped in by calling Neymar to caution him against a move to Madrid.
The Argentine is also understood to have pleaded with his former teammate to rejoin Barcelona instead.
Interestingly, Messi and Neymar spent four seasons together at Barcelona winning two La Liga titles, the Champions League and the Club World Cup.
Marca reports suggest the pair get along ‘excellently’ Messi ‘feels a special affinity for his former teammate’.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, August 11, PSG supporters showed their other side against Neymar during their match against Nimes as they displayed banners with different messages- ‘get out’, while some fans chanted ‘son of a biitch’ at the Brazilian. However, speaking after the game, PSG boss Thomas Tuchel admitted he wants Neymar to stay.

“I love Neymar. I want to continue playing with him, but the reality is that we have to find solutions without Ney,’ he said.
“If we lose Neymar, maybe I will not sleep. It’s not possible to lose Ney and find a guy who does the same things as him,” he summed up.
