Aruna Quadri defeated Austria’s Gardos Robert to successfully defend the 2019 edition of the Nigeria Open Table Tennis Championship in Lagos.

Quadri became only the second player to defend the title after Omar Assar of Egypt on Sunday, August 11. It also marks Quadri’s second successive tournament which started back in 2013.

Nigeria’s greatest table tennis superstar defeated Rober in the final after a thrilling six contested sets, 15-13, 11-3, 8-11, 11-6, 10-12, 11-1 (4-2).

Quadri took the first set before going down in the second and third, but he rallied back in the fourth, fifth and sixth to emerge victorious.

The world number 22 defeated Indian’s Ghosh Soumyajit 11-8, 11-5, 11-4, 8-11, 11-4 (4-1) in an easy semi-final fixture.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Mikhailova Polina claimed the women’s singles final by defeating her fellow counterpart, Noskova Yana in a come-back seven set, 11-6, 11-6, 11-6, 8-11, 3-11, 13-15, 13-15.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Samuel Chukwueze posted a man-of-the-match performance for Villarreal in their 4-3 victory over Bologna in their final pre-season friendly before the new season kicks off.
