- The gunmen allegedly stormed the hostel in the middle of the night and carted away student properties
Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers allegedly invaded a hostel of the University of Ibadan in the early hours of Sunday, August 11, and carted away students properties.
The gunmen allegedly axed down the gate of Abdulsalami Abubakar hostel, a postgraduate hostel, around 2am Sunday morning, and several students were injured during the attack.
Premium Times reports that one of the students, said: “They had a struggle entering into the hostel because the security in New Hall is actually tight. But we didn’t know what it was and we were wondering where the securities and potters were at this time.”
Oladejo said: “Let me also say that it is Abdulsalami Abubakar hall. It is a postgraduate hostel for both male and female.
“Those who perpetrated the incident knew the terrain became they did not go to male hostel. We are still working and the investigation is still ongoing.
“UI is not immune to what is happening in Nigeria. The security situation in the country. We don’t know how they came. The security did their best. They injured some students.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom has warned that any student caught in act of cultism in the University of Uyo will face hard times in line with the law prohibiting the act in the state.
Governor Emmanuel stated this at Victory Chapel, a church on the town campus of the university, stressing that the law banning cultism was still in force in the state.
The governor frowned at the recent cases of cult activities on the campus which he noted have endangered the lives of the affected female students.
