Brazilian football star David Luiz has explained that the desire to win trophies masterminded his decision to leave Chelsea for a move to rivals Arsenal.

The former Paris-Saint-Germain defender made a controversial deadline day move across London to Arsenal in an £8 million deal.

His move to the Emirates stadium triggered some big reactions from football fans in the world as some were surprised to see Arsenal signing Luiz.

David Luiz signed a two-year deal with the Gunners and he has has given an explanation on why he joined Unai Emery's side.

"All my life, I’ve always started the season with the goal to win things.

"It’s not going to be different here - I’m going to come with this mentality because this is what made me move here.

"The cycle finished there. It was a conversation between me and Chelsea and everybody.

"I had an opportunity to come to another big club. In my life, I’ve always liked to do some challenges,'' David Luiz told Arsenal official website.
