- Some stakeholders within the All Progressives Congress (APC) sue the party over the strategy being adopted ahead of the governorship election in Kogi
- The plaintiffs want the court to stop the party from going ahead with the indirect primaries in Kogi
- Mohammed Audu, one of the aspirants kicks against the party's alleged support for Yahaya Bello, governor of the state
Aggrieved stakeholders within the All Progressives Congress (APC) have sued the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party over the mode of selection of its candidate ahead of the governorship election in Kogi state.
Legit.ng understands that the stakeholders further warned that the state would experience the defeat suffered by the APC in Zamfara during the 2019 election if it does not take the right steps.
Vanguard reports that originating summons filed by their lawyer, Oluwole Aladedoye, at the Federal High Court in Abuja, showed that the stakeholders want the indirect primaries planned by the APC stopped.
The report gave the names of some of the stakeholders, who are members of Haddy Ametuo-led faction, as the ex-officio, Destiny Eneojoh Aromeh; the organising secretary, Isah Abubakar; the zonal youth leader, Noah Aku, and the zonal women leader, Joy Onu.
In the suit with number FHC/ABJ/CS/833/2019 and sent to the APC national legal adviser, Babatunde Ogala, the plaintiffs want the latter to advise the party on the need to respect court processes and halt any action on the proposed indirect primary.
Among others, the plaintiffs sought answers to whether the APC can adopt the indirect primaries with regard to the pendency of the suit filed by Haddy Ametuo, Salam Adejoh (suing for themselves and on behalf of other members) of the SEC elected on May 19, 2018.
Mohammed Audu, one of the aspirants within the party, claimed that Kogi state government, led by Yahaya Bello, is afraid of direct primaries because he is not popular among APC members in the state.
“I personally think that the present government is afraid of opening the process of selection and that is why they have chosen to go by the way of indirect primary,” he said.
Legit.ng earlier reported that the NWC of the APC recently declared its support for Governor Yahaya Bello on indirect primaries for the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
