Manchester City youngster Lukas Nmecha has completed a one year loan move to Bundesliga side Wolfsburg this summer.

The 20-year-old forward, who was born to a Nigerian and German parent is expected to return to the Etihad Stadium at the end of this season.

Nmecha spent the 2018-19 season at Preston North End - scoring just four goals and eight assists in 44 appearances for the English lower league side as reported by DW.

He joined Man City academy in 2007, and has grown through the ranks at the Etihad Stadium side before making his debut in an EFL Cup game in December 2017.

The 20-year-old has also featured for the England U16 to U21 before representing the German U21 national team this year.

Nmecha was born in 1998 and then moved to England with his family in 2007, where he and his brother, Felix, joined Manchester City's youth setup.

The striker has been handed the number 22 jersey by the German club and the right-footed forward who can also play on the wing will add depth to the club's attack.

Wolfsburg sporting director Marcel Schafer said on the club's official website that the player's mindset fits into that of the club.

"Lukas is a young and hungry player who fits in perfectly with the philosophy at our club both on and off the pitch," said VfL director of sport Marcel Schafer.

"He put in some good performances in the English second tier and in U-21 internationals last season and certainly caught the eye. We’re delighted that the next stage of his career is going to be with us."

While reacting to his recent move to Germany, said Nmecha: "It had been my aim to play in the Bundesliga and in my home country for some time now,"

"I’m particularly pleased that this move to VfL Wolfsburg has come off because everything is in place for me here to further my development at the highest level and to realise my full potential.“

Legit.ng earlier reported that Barcelona forward Philippe Coutinho could join Arsenal on loan this summer.

The Brazilian joined the Catalans in a deal valued around £145 million from Liverpool in 2018 but has failed to live up to expectation at the club.

A few other top European clubs are also interested in signing the winger who helped his national team win Copa America title earlier this summer.
