Lawmaker visits warring 2 communities in Benue, breaks truce (photos)

- A member of the House of Representatives have visited the warring communities in Benue state

- The lawmaker urged the communities to embrace peace and focus of developing the area

- Francis Agbo assured the warring communities of the government's sustained commitment to ensuring lasting peace returned to Okpokwu

A lawmaker representing Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo federal constituency of Benue state has visited the warring Okpoga and Ollo communities in Okpokwu local government area of the state.

Francis Agbo called on all residents of the warring communities to embrace peace and focus of developing the area.

The two communities had been enmeshed with age long crises, with the recent crisis claiming lives and property worth millions of naira.

The lawmaker who was in the company of the chairman of Okpokwu local government council, Amina Audu, and other stakeholders met with the traditional rulers, youths, clergy and security agencies.

All the parties at the meeting also agreed to embrace peace within the local government council area and the state as a whole.

Commending the deputy governor of Benue state, Benson Abounu, for holding fort on behalf of the governor and for deploying security to the troubled zone, Agbo assured the warring communities of the government's sustained commitment to ensuring lasting peace returned to Okpokwu.

Audu also promised that the sponsors of the crisis must be brought to book.

"Every crisis has sponsors, we must try to get to the roots of this. We must strive to rid this Local Government of criminality and criminal elements," Agbo said.

"I am happy the federal government and the Benue state government have zero tolerance for crimes and criminality in this place," he said.

He also assured that the there would be collaboration with the state government and relevant organizations, especially, the security agencies, to put a lasting end to the violence in the area.

Agbo also cautioned those who fan the ember of hate, by instigating the public against those in authority, to stop forthwith, while urging those who play politics with the unfortunate situation to desist from it.

He said: "People who complained that the governor traveled to America while Okpokwu was boiling, do not understand the workings of government."

Also speaking, Audu commended the House of Representatives member for his quick response to the crisis.

She also appreciated Agbo for personally coming to Benue for an on-the-spot assessment of the crisis.

Lauding the efforts of the state government in swiftly mobilising security to the troubled zones, Audu said: "Despite being in America, the governor and Senator Abba Moro have always been in touch with us at home and we always give minute-by-minute update on the situation."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Agbo had earlier condemned the crisis between the two communities in Okpokwu local government area council.

The lawmaker had also blamed the rampart spate of youth-induced violence in Idoma land and Nigeria in general to drugs addiction.
