- The Boko Haram operatives terrorising the northeastern region have been substantially degraded, the Chief of Air Staff has said
Sadique Abubakar said said the terrorists have been caged in the Lake Chad region
- According to Abubakar, military operations carried out since the assumption of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration in 2015 has recorded much gain
The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has said that the Boko Haram insurgents operating in the northeast have been substantially degraded by the Armed Forces.
Speaking on Channels Television's NewsNight on Monday, August 5, Abubakar said the large number of the terrorists have been caged in the Lake Chad region.
Stating that the situation is better than what it used to be in the fight against insurgency, the Chief of Air Staff said the military operations carried out since the assumption of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration in 2015 has recorded much gain.
“The situation (insurgency fight) today is far better than it was some four or five years back. Boko Haram has now been more or less caged to a particular area, mainly the Lake Chad area," Abubakar said.
“In 2015, when we saw them coming to Abuja, Nyanya was bombed twice. Madalla, the United Nations headquarters was equally bombed. We also had an explosion in the Bannex Plaza area.
“So if we put the picture of where we are coming from and where we are today, I think it will be very safe to say that Boko Haram has been substantially degraded,” he said.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that a senior officer of the Nigerian Air Force said that Boko Haram members operating in Alafa area of Sambisa forest were neutralised.
Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, NAF's spokesperson said the terrorists' hideout was destroyed by airstrikes launched after intelligence reports established the presence of the terrorists in the area.
