23-year-old man bags 15 years in prison for stealing from OAU students and staff

- A Thief has been sentenced to fifteen years in prison for terrorising staff and students at Obafemi Awolowo University

- It was gathered that the thief was caught by the university security unit after stealing some items from students during their exam

- The thief identified as Odioye Wilson told the security unit that he belongs to a seven-man syndicate

A 23-year-old man identified as Odioye Wilson has been sentenced to fifteen years in prison for stealing from staff and students of Obafemi Awolowo University.

According to Vanguard, the thief is a member of a syndicate that has been terrorising the staff and students of the university.

The news was announced by the public relations officer of the university, Abiodun Olanrewaju, in a press statement. Olanrewaju stated that Wilson was arrested by the security unit of the university.

Olanrewaju noted that Wilson was arrested when students were writing an exam after he stole from them. Some of the students had dropped their belongings as is customary of them during an examination.

He also revealed that the thief was handed over to the police in Osun stated. Wilson was said to have stolen 7 mobile phones, an iPad, the cash sum of N5,000.

During interrogation, the thief, who earlier claimed that he is a rusticated student, revealed that he belongs to a seven-man syndicate. He said the syndicate robs students and staff of the university.

The thief was found guilty on three counts and was sentenced to five years on each count.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that a transformer cable thief identified as Peter Abah was nabbed and arrested by the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos state.

Abah was previously jailed for stealing solar panels and he was again caught with electrical cables concealed inside a wheelbarrow.
