Taraba crisis: Curfew imposed in Takum town

- Curfew has been declared in Takum town over the crisis between Jukuns and Tivs in the area

- The curfew followed after the Jukuns in retaliation to the killing of one of their own in his farm by some alleged Tiv militia

- Houses worth millions of naira were said to have been destroyed forcing residents to flee from the area to other neigbhouring towns

The Taraba state government has announced a curfew in Takum - the hometown of Governor Ishaku Darius and Theophilus Danjuma - following the crisis between indigenes of Jukun and Tivs.

Crisis in the area began after the Jukuns in retaliation to the killing of one of their own in his farm by some alleged Tiv militia.

Daily Trust reports that the curfew was announced after the crisis between the two ethnic group entered its second day which left many Tiv people killed.

Also, houses worth millions of naira were said to have been destroyed forcing resident to flee from the area to other neigbhouring towns.

Speaking on the incident, Mallam Musa Muhammad, a resident of the Takum village said calm has returned to the town.

Muhammad also said that residents have remained indoor as soldiers are patrolling the streets.

Confirming the incident, the Taraba state spokesperson, DSP David Misal said only one person was killed and the situation is under control.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the state government had earlier shutdown the Federal University, Wukari over alleged abduction and killing of some students and staff of the institution during the crisis.

The school's authorities said the committee of deans and directors on Wednesday, July 31, approved the closure of the institution.
