Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai of Kaduna has promised to sponsor the education of a 13-year-old Almajiri boy who learned the act of shoe repair from his brother because he does not want to take to street for begging.

In what started like a fairy-tale, a social media user, Muhd El-Bonga Ibrahim, had twitted on Friday, June 26, that 13-year-old Usman, an Almajiri boy from Maiduguri, learnt ''how to shine and repair shoes from his brother where he earns an average of N500 a day.''

According to Ibrahim, the boy's aspiration for education was dashed because there was nobody to sponsor him. Fortunately, the attention of the Kaduna governor was called to the Twitter user's post.

Struck by Usman's uncommon story of hardworking and perseverance, Governor El-Rufai requested that the boy should be located and brought to state government house.

He also announced on his verified Twitter account to sponsor his education from primary to tertiary.

This move has been commended by social media users who praised the governor for setting the pace for the education of Almajiris in the north.

Ibrahim later tweeted that Usman has been located on the request of the Kaduna governor.

He said: ''At the request of the Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam @elrufai, I was able to establish contact with Usman’s Mallam.

''The Mallam promised to reach out to Usman’s parents and get back to me soon. It’s also northworthy to state that I spoke with someone from Borno State government.
