Speculations surrounding Kieran Trippier transfer to Spanish side Atletico Madrid hit the headlines ever since the summer transfer window opened. After days of negotiations and talking, the England international has finally reached an agreement with the Spanish club. He will now play in La Liga from next season.
Kieran Trippier has officially completed a move from Tottenham Hotspurs to Atletico Madrid after signing a lucrative three-year deal with the Spanish club. Atletico paid £21.7m to Spurs to acquire the services of the right-back who already passed a medical test with the club.
The 28-year-old has left Tottenham fans with bitter taste ahead of the new season. Trippier made his name at the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals but struggled to regain form in the 2018-19 season. He will now continue his career in Spain, hoping to find his feet in the new league.
Atletico Madrid beat Italian side Napoli who were also competing for the defender. The Spanish giants announced the agreement on their twitter account shortly after reaching an agreement with the player.
Trippier stats at Tottenham
The England star joined Spurs in 2015 from Burnley. During his stint at Tottenham, he made a total of 114 appearances in all competitions, while scoring two goals and making 24 assists. His last match for Tottenham was in the Champions League final where they lost 2-0 to Liverpool. A drip in their form in the concluding fixtures saw Spurs finish fourth in the Premier League.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino left Trippier out of the Spur's pre-season squad that is currently on an Asia tour. Despite the current challenges, the player has proved himself as one of the best right-backs in the world.

What is next for Trippier?
After joining Atletico, Trippier's new challenge is to help the club win La Liga from reigning champions, Barcelona. At Spurs, he failed to win a silverware and will be hoping to end his drought at Wanda Metropolitano stadium. The defender could not hide his feelings and happiness after joining Atletico in an interview with the club's website.
"It's such a massive club. I'm very excited. I'll give everything for the team and the coach. When Atlético de Madrid was interested, I didn't think twice. There's a world class manager and team. It's a massive opportunity for me and my family. I've always wanted to play abroad, especially in La Liga. I'm going to give it my all."
The England star is not the only recruit by Diego Simeone in the current transfer season. Ex-Porto defender Felipe also joined the team alongside Brazilian Renan Lodi. Atletico also signed Portuguese youngster Joao Felix at a record fee of £113m from Benfica, Hector Herrera from Porto, and Marcos Llorente from Real Madrid.
Atletico's busy market has also seen them lose several top talents as they continue their rebuilding process. Star striker Antoinne Griezmann completed a move to Barcelona, while their former captain and defender Diego Godin signed for Inter Milan. Others are midfielder Rodri to Manchester City and the experienced Juanfran.
Will Kieran Trippier fill the gaps left by Atletico veterans next season? The Spanish club will be hoping their summer spending pay off as they look to regain their lost glory in Europe. Do you think the England star is the perfect signing for the Spanish side?
