Chelsea will reportedly miss the services of their defender Antonio Rudiger when the season kicks off next month.

Daily Mail claims the defender is expected to return to action after the first international break of the season.

The publication further reports that the Blues medical staff are hopeful Rudiger will be a part of the squad for the trip to Molineux on September 14.

He should also be ready to face current European champions Liverpool the following weekend and his return will come as huge boost to manager Frank Lampard, who has not been able to sign a player.

It will be recalled that the Europa League champions are currently serving a two transfer window ban and will not be able to sign a player until the summer of 2020.

Daily Mail quoting Sportsmail claims Lampard and Rudiger have met at the club's training pitch - stressing how important he'll be next season.

Since the departure of Eden Hazard, the former Roma defender is one of the emerging leaders at the Blues dressing since his arrival in 2017.

Meanwhile, the manager is yet to confirm which of the players will replace Gary Cahill as the club's new captain.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has confirmed that Ethan Ampadu will be leaving Stamford Bridge this summer for a loan move to an unnamed club.

Last season under Maurizio Sarri, Ethan Ampadu was not given the chance to play in the Premier League, but made five appearances for the Blues in the Carabao and FA Cups.

Ampadu has not travelled with Chelsea’s squad for their pre-season tour of Japan as he looks to complete his temporary move away from Stamford Bridge
