Alvaro Morata says joining Atletico Madrid is 'best thing that happened to him'

- Alvaro Morata says joining Atletico Madrid on a permanent deal is the best thing that has happened to him

- The 26-year-old has been on loan with the La Liga side since January 2019 which will expire in June 2020

- Morata will however not return to Stamford Bridge having signed a substantial deal with his present club

Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata may have aimed a dig at his former club Chelsea after saying joining his present team on permanent basis is 'the best thing that happened to me.'

The Spaniard sealed a deal to join the Spanish League outfit on a permanent move this summer, but this will not take effect until the summer of 2020 when his loan spell with the club expires.

According to SunSport, the former Real Madrid front-man signed contract valued around £58 million with the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium this July.

The 26-year-old scored six goals and created one assist in 17 matches in all competitions for coach Diego Simeone's men in the second half of the 2018-19 season.

Morata moved to Stamford Bridge in 2017 and within one and a half season, he scored 24 goals and six assists in 72 matches, yet he was regarded as a flop by the fans.

Morata told EFE while reacting to his new deal with the La Liga club that: “Atletico are the best thing that could have happened to me.

"It would mean so much to me to win titles with Atleti, even more than anything I’ve won in the past because this is different. “Big players have left, especially big characters.

"I wish they could still be here, but everyone has their own circumstances and has their own trajectory.

"[New Barcelona star Antoine Griezmann?] He is a top, top player. I don’t need to tell you how big he is. He’s been one of the best players that Atleti have had in recent times.”

Meanwhile, just as Morata has sealed a permanent deal with Atletico, Diego Costa wants out of the club and could join Everton in his second stint in the Premier League.

West Ham United have also expressed their interest in signing Juventus star Gonzalo Higuain, while Bayern Munich are not giving up on Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The Germans have launched a fresh £45m bid but Frank Lampard is confident the young winger will sign a new contract.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Mason Mount has signed a new five-year contract with Chelsea as the Stamford Bridge outfit continue to secure the futures of their young stars.

The midfielder was rewarded for his superb loan at Derby County under Frank Lampard last season which earned him a call up to play for England.

Chelsea have now made sure that the 20-year-old is committed to the club until at least 2024.
