Barcelona midfielder Carles Alena is reportedly willing to relinquish his No.21 shirt for the club's new arrival Frenkie De Jong ahead of the new season.

According to SportBIBLE citing Mundo Deportivo, De Jong is said to have spoken to Alena about the possibility of sporting the shirt once the new campaign kicks off.

Alena is now understood to be ready to give up the jersey for the former Ajax star who is keen to honour is late grandfather with it.

Previously, there have been concerns on the number the Dutch international could get at Camp Nou, after appearing two weeks ago without a number.

De Jong is said to have a strong affinity with the No.21 and has worn it during his time with his former club and the Netherlands as well as maintaining the number across his official social networks.

Recently, the 22-year-old revealed his grandfather died on his 21st birthday and he pays tribute to him through the number.

"I feel comfortable with that number," De Jong told Dutch magazine Voetbal International.

"I brought my whole family to my presentation in Barcelona, except my grandfather Hans de Jong, my father's father. He died on the day of my 21st birthday. Unconsciously it is also a kind of tribute. He was a huge football fan," he divulged.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Eden Hazard arrived at Real Madrid last month from Chelsea and his squad number has become a headache for the Belgian.
