Super Eagles handler Gernot Rohr has explained that his wards were unlucky to have conceded a late goal against Algeria which condemned them to 2-1 defeat in AFCON 2019.
The hopes of the Super Eagles winning the AFCON 2019 title ended on Sunday night, July 14, when Manchester City striker Riyad Mahrez scored a brilliant free kick at the death to beat Nigeria in the semifinal.
Nigerians were expecting the match to be dragged into extra-time as the scoreline was 1-1 after 90 minutes before Mahrez netted in the additional time.

Rohr however stated in a post match conference that the Super Eagles were undone by concluding that the game will drag beyond the regulation time.
“Unfortunately we conceded the goal towards the last minute, I think my players wanted to go to extra time believing that perhaps Algeria will be tired and we could win this game at the end of extra time.
“It was a wonderful match, we lost it and we are not happy. Congratulations to the Algeria players. They were the better team in the first half,'' Rohr told reporters in Egypt.
Algeria will now face Senegal in the final of the 2019 African Nations Cup while the Super Eagles will face Tunisia in the third place match.
