- Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has made it clear that Mikel Obi is doing a great job
- Mikel has missed Nigeria's last two games against South Africa and Cameroon
Gernot Rohr who is the handler of the Super Eagles of Nigeria has made it clear that there is no problem in his team with Mikel Obi not playing.
Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi has missed Nigeria's last two games at the ongoing 2019 African Cup of Nations.
And in his absence, the Super Eagles performed incredibly beating Cameroon in the round of 16 encounter and also beating South Africa in the quarterfinal.
Arsenal star Alex Iwobi has been playing Mikel's position in the Super Eagles for the last two games, and Gernot Rohr has offered some explanation.
“The best moment is when you are a player and they have to enjoy this moment. Play as long as possible, I tell them we have Obi Mikel here with us.
“Even if he is not starting the game, he is doing a good job as a captain, he’s a guide for the young players.
“Some of you believed, in Nigeria especially, that Obi Mikel coming back and not starting the games, we will have a problem.
“There is no problem and we have two captains, Mikel and Ahmed Musa, who is also a very important African player,'' Rohr told reporters in Egypt.
Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Super Eagles trio of Ahmed Musa, Odion Ighalo and defender Chidozie Awaziem were declared fit to face Algeria in AFCON 2019 semifinal clash on Sunday, July 14.
There have been reports that these three players may not be fit for Nigeria's next AFCON 2019 game against Algeria due to the knocks they suffered against South Africa.
