Super Eagles striker Alex Iwobi has made it clear that his teammates are ready for the big clash against Algeria in the semifinal of the 2019 African Cup of Nations.

Nigeria beat bitter rivals South Africa 2-1 in their quarterfinal game, while Algeria defeated Ivory Coast on penalties to reach the last four.

Alex Iwobi has been impressive for Nigeria in this competition since he replaced captain Mikel Obi in the midfield.

He scored his first AFCON goal against champions Cameroon as Nigeria defeated the Indomitable Lions 3-2 in the round of 16.

And while speaking with BBC Sport, Alex Iwobi admitted that Algeria are a great side, but added that they would be defeated by the Super Eagles.

“We are not worried about the way they’ve played and their unbeaten run. We just have to try and win it. Algeria is one of the great teams in Africa.

“We know it’s not going to be easy, they’ve got quality players but so do we. It’s going to be a great game to watch, let’s hope Nigeria can do it.

“If we manage to achieve success here, we will go down in history. I know it’s always been our childhood dream to win as many competitions as we can,'' Iwobi explained.

Earlier, had reported how Super Eagles striker Ahmed Musa urged Egyptian fans to give Nigeria the maximum support on Sunday, July 14, when they face Algeria in the AFCON 2019 semifinal.
