President Bolsonaro of Brazil offers US ambassador job to son

- Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro says he has offered his son the job of ambassador to the US

- Eduardo Bolsonaro who a federal congressman has also revealed that he would accept the offer if offered

- The appointment would however need to be approved by the foreign affairs committee of Brazil’s Senate which will be followed by a full vote by the upper house

President Jair Bolsonaro of Brazil has invited his third son Eduardo to become ambassador to the United States of America.

The president while speaking on the invitation says his son would make a good ambassador giving his fluency in English and Spanish. He added that his son is also a friend of President Donald Trump's children, Financial Times reports.

The son, Eduardo Bolsonaro who is currently a federal congressman in his reaction says he would accept the position of ambassador which has been vacant since April, if invited, BBC reports.

“If it is a mission given by the president, I would accept,” Eduardo was quoted to have said.

However, the 35-year-old congressman would have to resign his position if he eventually take up the position of ambassador, and the appointment would need to be approved by the Senate.

According to the news medium, many people at the Brazilian foreign ministry see Eduardo Bolsonaro as a shadow foreign minister. This is as a result of the strong influence he has on his father's foreign policy ideas.

Apart from Eduardo, two of the president's sons are also in government in one capacity or the other. His eldest son Flavio is a senator while Carlos Bolsonaro is a Rio de Janeiro city councillor.
