Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets were handed tough group opponents for the forthcoming FIFA U17 World Cup in Brazil on Thursday, July 12, in Zurich.
The draw ceremony for the cadet World Cup at FIFA’s house saw Nigeria drawn alongside the trio of Ecuador, Hungary and Australia in Group B, while Africa’s second representative, Cameroon tackle Spain, Argentina and Tajikistan in Group E.
A further breakdown of the groups revealed that Africa’s third representatives Senegal are in Group D along with USA, Japan and Netherlands while Angola-Africa’s final entry for the age-grade tournament are in Group A along with host nation Brazil, Canada and New Zealand
Brazil kick-off hostilities for the biennial tournament on October 26 against Canada while Angola tackle New Zealand at the Estadio Bezerrao.
Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets will be looking to return to winning ways after missing out of the 2017 edition in India.
Senegal replaced Guinea at the tournament after the latter were sent packing over age falsification during the 2019 Africa U17 Cup of Nations in Tanzania.
Cameroon head to Brazil as African champions at U17 level while Angola are the continent’s third-best team.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported Nigeria's Golden Eaglets suffered a 2-1 defeat to Angola in the third place match on Saturday, April 27, to finish fourth at the U-17 Nations Cup ongoing in Tanzania.
The Manu Garba tutored side went behind through a fine strike from top scorer of the tournament Capita, who grabbed his fourth goal of the tournament in the 27th minute.
But three minutes later, Nigeria were back on level terms through Wisdom Ubani who powered home from close range to grabbed Nigeria's equalizer and his third goal of the tournament.
