The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday, July 12, commended the governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki, for his reported plan to probe the administration of his predecessor, Adams Oshiomhole.

The proposed investigation is said to be related to the contract of the Edo central hospital.

The Guardian reports that Dan Orbih, Edo state chairman of the PDP, said his party had been vindicated by Obaseki’s decision to probe the alleged contract issues with the hospital.

According to Orbih, the PDP had raised an alarm as far back as 2012 over an alleged inflation of the contract for the hospital and the subsequent commissioning of the facility by President Muhammadu Buhari.

He advised that all those connected with the award, poor execution and commissioning of the project should be made to account for their roles in the interest of Edo people.

He said though he does not want his reaction to be seen as taking sides between Oshiomhole and Obaseki, it is now important to urge the governor to take action in public interest and expose the alleged deceit of the past and present administrations.

The PDP chairman said the timing of the government’s alleged admission of fraud in the award and implementation of the contract may look politically motivated, but the issues raised by Governor Obaseki cannot be ignored.
