Policemen sent to curb kidnapping caught receiving bribes from motorists (video)

Some police officers deployed to Ife-Ibadan highway to curb kidnapping along the highway have been captured in a video extorting motorists.

Premium Times reports that the policemen stationed at the outskirt of Ibadan, Ikire, Gbongan and Ile-Ife demanded bribe from the driver of the vehicle conveying a Premium Times reporter and 17 other passengers on Monday evening, July 8.

Legit.ng gathers that the journey was said to have lasted for an hour and 15 minutes.

Report has it that extorting money from motorists is the stock-in-trade of these police officers who also mount road blocks along the road.

Recall that some gunmen on Sunday, May 5, kidnapped a lecturer and staff of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife, Professor Adegbehingbe, along the Ife/Ibadan expressway.

It was gathered that Adegbehingbe was abducted near Ikire, few minutes to 9 pm while traveling to Ife.

Also, some other vehicles that were moving along the route when the incident happened were said to have stopped because the gunmen wielding sophisticated weapons, partially blocked the road.

During the incident, two people who were in the vehicle with the lecturer were abducted, while the other passenger was said to be his wife.

Speaking on the matter, the director of media, ooni of Ife palace, Moses Olafare, said he received a call from an anonymous caller over the abduction.

Legit.ng previously reported that bandits described as herdsmen on Wednesday, June 12, attacked passengers on the Ife-Ibadan highway, killing one person.

The victim was identified as Adenipekun Ademiju, a worker in the Atakumosa West local government area of Osun state.

Ademiju was said to have boarded a vehicle at Osu town going to Ibadan when he and other passengers were attacked at Ikire community along the expressway.
