Super Eagles and Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi has expressed his disappointment towards the exit of Egypt at the 2019 African Cup of Nations as they were sent out by South Africa.

Egypt who are the hosts of the 2019 African Cup of Nations won all their games in the Group stages but surprisingly lost against South Africa in the round of 16.

And on Wednesday night, July 10, in Egypt, Alex Iwobi was superb for the Super Eagles providing an assist in Nigeria's 2-1 win over South Africa in the AFCON 2019 quarterfinal.

“The exit of the hosting team is sad. Morocco‘s knockout was also surprising. We know the quality of Egypt players and their quality.

“It‘s not the first time for me in Egypt. It‘s a great country and everyone is helping and welcoming us greatly.

“Elneny is a great friend. He was too concerned to help me in Egypt and he is one of my closest teammates at Arsenal,'' Iwobi told CAFOnline.com.

Meanwhile, Alex Iwobi is now expected to miss Arsenal's pre-season tour of the United States after his country qualified for the semifinal of the AFCON 2019.

He may also miss next season's opening games in the Premier League should Nigeria reach the final which will give Iwobi at least two-three weeks break.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Nigeria vs South Africa ended in a 2-1 win in favour of the Super Eagles as Gernot Rohr's men made it through to the semi finals.

The match started on a slow pace as both sides carefully built their confidence in the opening exchanges of the game.

But the Super Eagles quickly got into their strides as they started creating scoring chances as the game progressed.
