Nigeria’s Super Eagles and South Africa’s Bafana Bafana will trade tackles in a quarterfinal round of the ongoing 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The encounter is the first time in 15 years both nations are meeting at this stage of Africa's football showpiece.
Nigeria sent defending champions – Cameroon packing from the biennial tournament with a 3-2 win, courtesy of a brace from Odion Ighalo and a goal from Alex Iwobi.
Legit.ng in this report, look at the Super Eagles players, who started the game against Cameroon's Indomitable Lions and see how many could return to first team against South Africa's Bafana Bafana.
Super Eagles team against Cameroon:
Daniel Akpeyi, Chidozie Awaziem, Ola Aina, Wilfred Ndidi, Troost Ekong, Kenneth Omeruo, Ahmed Musa, Oghenekaro Etebo, Alex Iwobi, Odion Ighalo, Moses Simeon
These players put up a decent show against Cameroon in the last 16 rounds as Nigeria reached the quarterfinal, but some of them will not be available against South Africa due to changes in Gernor Rohr's tactics or formation.
1. Ola Aina out and Jamiu Collins in
The left-back is expected to play his first game at the ongoing tournament.
And with Collins return from injury, Ola Aina is expected to start from the bench
2. Moses Simon out and Samuel Chukwueze in
After seeing Chukwueze in action during the second half against Cameroon last weekend, many football buffs questioned Gernot Rohr rationale to start the Levante man-Simeon ahead of the former Golden Eaglets star.
And due to several calls and reactions, Chukwueze is expected to start in the attack on Wednesday, July 10, against South Africa.
So, from the above observations, expect two changes from the Super Eagles team that defeated Cameroon in the last 16 round.
Possible lineups against South Africa below
Daniel Akpeyi, Jamiu Collins, Ola Aina, Wilfred Ndidi, Troost Ekong, Kenneth Omeruo, Ahmed Musa, Oghenekaro Etebo, Odion Ighalo, Alex Iwobi and Samuel Chukwueze.
