9th NASS: I'm not surprised at emergence of reps minority leader - Governor Wike

- Governor Nyesom Wike has described what is happening at the House of Reps as unfortunate

- The House speaker had announced Ndudi Elumelu as minority leader, ignoring the PDP's nominee Kingsley Chinda

- According to Governor Wike, the development did not come as a surprise to him

Rivers state Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike on Thursday, July 4, said the emergence of the minority leader of the House of Representatives, Ndudi Elumelu, is the handiwork of traders and merchants.

Wike said this during the visit Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde, paid him, Daily Trust reports.

The River state governor said the recent development in the House does not surprise him and described as unfortunate the situation where some people do not know what politics is about.

“I am not surprised. When you have traders and merchants, what do you expect? It is unfortunate for those who do not understand what politics is all about. I am a core party man. I believe in the party,” he said.

Wike also said that peer review is important in causing development that cut across all states of the federation.

He showed his confidence in the Oyo state governor’s ability to make development happen in the state.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that there was a rowdy session in the House following Femi Gbajabiamila’s decision to announce Elumelu as minority leader.

It was gathered that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had sent a letter to the House nominating Kingsley Chinda as minority leader on Wednesday, July 3.

However, the speaker of the House ignored the party’s nominee and instead announced Elumelu also of the PDP as minority leader.

According to report, an unidentified lawmaker grabbed the mace in the midst of the rowdy session caused by the action of the speaker.

The letter which was sent to Gbajabiamila was signed by the PDP chairman, Uche Secondus, and its secretary, Umar Tsauri.
