Donald Trump hits back at USWNT star Megan Rapinoe after protesting during anthem

- Donald Trump has blasted United States women's team forward Megan Rapinoe for protesting during national anthem

- Megan scored twice to help her team beat Spain 2-1 to reach the last eight stage

United States president Donald Trump has lashed out at Megan Rapinoe after refusing to chant the national team before her side's 2-1 win over Spain in the Round of 16 on Monday.

The 33-year-old scored scored the two goals that sent the USWNT to the quarterfinals after converting two spot kicks during the game.

SunSport reports that attacker has not hidden her displeasure towards president Trump's numerous policies.

She was also said to have taken the knee three years back during the anthem to highlight the racist treatment of black men in America by police.

Trump has however hit back at the soccer star, who has branded herself as “a walking protest” after helping her side to victory.

When asked about the matter, the billionaire blasted Rapinoe when about the star: he told The Hill: “No, I don’t think so.”

Meanwhile, the president showered encomium on the US women team after their victory while encouraging them to win their fourth title.

He however refused to answer questions if women deserve equal pay: "I think a lot of it also has to do with the economics. I mean who draws more, where is the money coming in.

I know that when you have the great stars like (Portugal’s Cristiano) Ronaldo and some of these stars… that get paid a lot of money, but they draw hundreds of thousands of people.

"But I haven’t taken a position on that at all. I’d have to look at it.”

United States will battle France at the quarterfinal stage on Friday with the hope of retaining the title at the end of the competition. earlier reported that England vs Cameroon has so far been the most controversial game at the ongoing FIFA Women's World Cup in France as the game ended 3-0 in favour of the British side.

A goal each from Steph Houghton, Ellen White and Alex Greenwood ensured the English ladies progress to the next round of the championship.
