- Arsenal fans are demanding club mascot - Gunnersaurus replace Mustafi as he celebrates 25th birthday

- The beloved Emirates mascot turned 25 on Monday, June 24, and immediately faced calls to go into the club's starting XI

- It is surprising Arsenal supporters are now banking on a dinosaur to do the centre-back job

Arsenal fans are celebrating Gunnersaurus 25th birthday anniversary and have pleaded with the club’s mascot to replace centre-back Shkodran Mustafi at the heart of defence.

According to UK Sun report, Gunners faithful are keen to have the 25-year-old, who is now "hitting his prime" to be handed a starting XI role in the new season.

The fact remains Gunnersaurus has aged well after seeing most of his bodies perished some 66 million years ago.

Interestingly, it is rather surprising Arsenal supporters are now banking on a dinosaur to do the job, with the new season closing in.

Reacting one user was quoted as saying, "He's at his peak, better start utilising him better", another Arsenal fan responded: "Better shout at CB than Mustafi."

In response to Gunnersaurus' tweet wishing himself many happy returns, another questioned: "Can you play CB?"

A fellow supporter penned: "Gunnersaurus deserves the armband this year."

Another added: "Entering his prime now, will be expecting more of him this season."

Interestingly, reports emerged last week that Arsenal eager to send the 27-year-old German star Mustafi packing, but cannot find suitors for him alongside Mesut Ozil.

Club manager Unai Emery reportedly has £45m to spend this summer after the Emirates dwellers failed to seal a spot in next season's Champions League campaign.

According to the Evening Standard, Emery is ready to offload the pair if he right offers arrive, but no club have approached Arsenal so far.

At the last count, Mustafi has netted twice in 31 top-flight appearances last season, since joining Arsenal from Valencia in 2016.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Granit Xhaka could become Arsenal's new captain in a bid to fend off interest from Spanish club Atletico Madrid.

The La Liga club are set to lose their 22-year-old midfielder Rodri to Manchester City with the Premier League champions close to agreeing a record £62.5million deal.

Atletico are seriously interested in Xhaka as a replacement for Rodri, as well as Real Madrid’s Marcos Llorente.
