Nigerians help 19-year-old mother detained over inability to pay N100k bill

- A 19-year-old-mother is currently being detained by a private hospital following the birth of her child

- According to reports, she was held back by the hospital over her inability to foot her medical bills

- A Twitter user, Esther Ijewere, has taken to the platform to solicit for help from people

While the birth of a child is often received with joy and celebrations, for this young lady who recently put to bed, her inability to foot her hospital bills after putting to bed is currently costing her her freedom.

According to a Twitter user identified as Esther Ijewere, the 19-year-old new mom is owing the hospital almost 100k after she was deilvered of her baby. Ijewere also shared proof by sharing a photo of the hospital bill. She also revealed she intends to help raise at least N150,000 to help the new mom.

The post reads: "This 19yr old mom is being detained at a private hospital in Lagos for her inability to pay her bill of almost 100k. She is also yet to buy any baby essentials for the new born. I am trying to help raise at least 150k to solve her immediate need."

Responding to a Twitter user who inquired about the young mother's husband, Ijewere revealed that the husband in question is also a teenager.

Shortly after the post went viral, a total of N174,000 was raised to support the 19-year-old mom. A Twitter user, Anike Lawal who also helped in raising awareness on the issue shared the good news on the platform.

She wrote: "Thank you to everyone who contributed towards this cause. Our fundraising is now over! We have raised the amount needed. As at 11.25am we have raised N53,000 from the @MamaletteNG Community Group and N121,000 raised through @EstherIjewere. The total amount now raised is N174,000."
