Benue man reportedly dies just 3 days after stealing community’s idol

- A man from Taraba reportedly dies three days after stealing an idol from a crisis-torn village

- The man allegedly hid the idol in his room and never told his co-looters that he stole the idol

- Witnesses said the suspect could not sleep throughout the three days he lived after steaking the idol

A Tiv community in Taraba state has lost a middle-aged man, who allegedly stole the village’s deity three days earlier.

It was learnt that after stealing the idol, the man secretly brought it to his room without informing those who went with him.

He, however, could not sleep till he finally died.

Daily Trust reports that the Tiv community had been affected recent crisis between it and the Jukuns crisis.

Shamaki Solomon, a resident of Wukari, was quoted as saying the man could not sleep the day he stole the antiquity, which was used to protect the traditionalists in the village.

The man reportedly confessed that he continued to hear strange sounds from the position he hid the idol.

He thereafter became sick, lost his senses and died.

The spokesperson of the police in Taraba state, DSP David Misal, said he was not aware of the issue since it was not reported to the command.
