Super Eagles of Nigeria will tackle Teranga Lions of Senegal behind closed doors in a pre-tournament friendly on Sunday, June 16, at Ismailia Stadium.

Speaking on Brila FM on Friday, June 14, Super Eagles media officer, Toyin Ibitoye, revealed that the managers of Nigeria and Senegal opted to keep the fans and public away from the fixture.

He noted that the managers will be using the game to fine-tune their preparations for the forthcoming 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tactical experiments on their respective teams.

Ibitoye further explained the Confederation of African Football (CAF) have already given their blessing to have the game behind closed-doors.

“Both coaches agreed that the game should be played behind closed doors and this move has been backed by CAF,” Ibitoye was quoted as saying on Brila FM.

“The plan is to ensure that the game is away from public view — and overzealous challenges.

“The team trains twice a day and are prepared for the task of doing the country proud,” he summed up.

Nigeria will open their Group B campaign at AFCON 2019 against Burundi on June 22, at Alexandria Stadium, Alexandria.

The Gernot Rohr tutored-side will battle Guinea at the same venue on June 26, before keeping a date with Madagascar in the final group game on Wednesday, June 30.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Super Eagles of Nigeria dropped three places in the latest FIFA world ranking released on Thursday, June 13, for the month of June ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

According to FIFA official Twitter handle, the Gernot Rohr tutored-side, who are currently training in Ismailia, Egypt for the forthcoming AFCON 2019, dropped three places to land at 45th spot.

Senegal’s Teranga Lions, remain Africa’s highest ranked national team, after gaining one spot to land on 22nd spot.
