Sadiq Kurba emerges as Gombe Assembly speaker

- Abubakar Sadiq has been sworn in as speaker of the state's 6th Assembly

- Shuaibu Haruna Adamu from Gombe North was elected as his deputy

- In the new House, APC has the majority with 19 members while the opposition PDP has five members

A member representing Yamaltu West at the Gombe state House of Assembly, Abubakar Sadiq Ibrahim, was on Friday, June 14, elected as the speaker of the 6th Assembly.

Ibrahim who is a popular known as Sadiq Kurba, is a two-time member of the House, Daily Trust reports.

It should be noted that Gombe North has already produced Governor Muhammed Inuwa Yahaya, while his deputy, Dr Manasseh Daniel Jatau, is from Gombe south.

In a related event, Shuaibu Haruna Adamu representing Kwami East from Gombe North was also elected as the deputy speaker.

Both Ibrahim and Adamu were administered oath of allegiance by the clerk of the Assembly, Alhaji Shehu Muhammad Atiku, as they were the only nominees for the seat.

It was also gathered that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has the majority in the House with 19 members while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has just five.

Meanwhile, earlier reported that Manasah Daniel Jatau, deputy governor for Gombe, enjoined fellow deputy governors to complement their state governors instead of competing with them in order to avoid rancor and smoothen their relationships for the common good.

Jatau said the role of a deputy governor is to complement not to compete, adding that competition is beginning to affect and cause conflicts between organisations and institutions like the press as well as security apparatus in the country.
