- Barcelona are reportedly set to put a total of eight players up for sale this summer
- This is because of their unimpressive campaign last season in the Champions League
- Andre Gomes, Denis Suarez, Malcom and Philippe Coutinho are among these players
Reigning Spanish champions Barcelona have reportedly put eight of their players up for sale after a disappointing campaign last season in the Champions League.
Although the Catalan giants won the Spanish La Liga title, they were expected to win the Champions League, but lost against Liverpool in the semifinal.
Barcelona defeated the Premier League giants 3-0 in the first leg of their semifinal clash at the Camp Nou, but against all odds, Liverpool bounced back to win 4-0 at Anfield in the return leg.
They were also beaten in the Copa del Rey final by Valencia in May in which that defeat almost cost manager Valverde his job.
And according to the report on UK Mirror, eight players have been deemed surplus to requirements as Barcelona plan for their campaign next season.
The players are Jasper Cillessen, Nelson Semedo, Samuel Umtiti, Ivan Rakitic, Andre Gomes, Denis Suarez, Malcom and Philippe Coutinho.
Philippe Coutinho in particular was booed by Barcelona fans for his unimpressive performance against Liverpool in the Champions League.
He has been linked with a return to Liverpool and there are also reports that Manchester United are interested in him.
Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Barcelona superstar Philippe Coutinho ruled out a chance of returning to the Premier League anytime soon.
The Brazil international dumped Liverpool to join the Catalans in a five year deal valued around £142 million in 2018.
Meanwhile, after just about two seasons in the Spanish League, the 26-year-old has been linked with a move back to the EPL - with Manchester United and Chelsea interested in signing him.
