- APC governors forum has lauded the outcome of the 9th National Assembly leadership election
- The forum's chairman, Atiku Bagudu congratulated the new speaker and Senate president, Femi Gbajabiamila and Ahmad Lawan
- The APC governors also promised to provide a strong partnership with the newly elected NASS leaders
Upon the victory of their party's preferred candidates as leaders of the newly inaugurated ninth National Assembly, the governors elected on the platform of All Progressive Congress (APC) have pledged to work with the new presiding officers.
Legit.ng had reported that in another historical event that signposted the beginning of new parliament in the country, both Senator Ahma Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila were elected Senate president and speaker of the House of Representatives respectively.
The two lawmakers came victorious with landslide, defeating other contenders having received the backing and blessing of their party, APC.
Reacting to the victory, the governor under the aegis of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) congratulated the new NASS leadership and promised to form a stronger synergy with them in a bid to bring effectiveness and change to government, The Nation reports.
In a letter signed by its chairman, Kebbi governor Atiku Bagudu, the forum described the emergence of both Lawan and Gbajabiamila as a victory for "leadership quality, strength of character, patience and interpersonal relationship.''
Part of the letter read: “I have the pleasure to write on behalf of all our Progressive Governors to congratulate you on your election as the Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
''It is indeed a testament to your faith, leadership qualities but also the strength of your character, patience and interpersonal relations capacity.
''As APC Governors, we look forward to close working relations with you to strengthen the capacity of our party, APC and all our elected representatives to move our dear nation forward.
“While looking forward to an early opportunity to meet you and strategise on how we can accelerate the process of delivering on all our campaign promises, please accept our hearty congratulations and the assurances of our highest regard.”

Meanwhile, Senator Ali Ndume on Tuesday, June 11, pledged to work with the newly elected Senate president, Ahmed Lawan and his deputy, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.
Speaking immediately after the election, which he lost to Lawan, the Borno South senator said that he will work with Lawan in the interest of the country.
