- Andre Onana has been shortlisted as one of the goalkeepers to replace David De Gea this summer
- The Ajax shot-stopper won double with his Dutch League side last term and has attracted interests from the Red Devils
- Onana has a deal with his present club until 2022 but United are planning to splash £40m on him
Manchester United are reportedly planning to launch a £40 million bid for Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana as replacement for want-away David De Gea this summer.
The Spaniard has refused to pen a new deal with the Red Devils despite having just one more season left on his current deal at the club.
However, the Old Trafford outfit are plotting to cash in on the shot-stopper rather than allow him leave as a free agent next summer.
Meanwhile, SunSport reports that United have lined up the 23-year-old Cameroonian to take the place of De Gea between the sticks ahead of the coming season.
The former Atletico Madrid moved to Manchester in 2011 in a deal valued around €25 million and rose to be one of the best players at the club.
De Gea endured a disappointing season last term after being criticised by the club's fans for series of mistakes during match days.
Onana on the other hand attracted interests from top European clubs this summer after helping Ajax win the Dutch League title and also reach the semifinals of last season's Champions League.
He is considered a cheaper option to Atletico Madrid star Jan Oblak who command a world record fee for a keeper.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would want to give number two Sergio Romero the chance to show he is capable of stepping up.
De Gea has won four major titles at Old Trafford since his move in 2011 - one Europa League, one Premier League, one FA Cup and one EFL Cup.

While Onana helped Ajax win double in the out-gone season, as they were crowned Dutch League champions as well as the KNVB Cup winners.
Their aim of completing a treble came to an end after losing to Mauricio Pochettino's Teottenham Hotspur at the semifinal stage last month.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Manchester United have issued a deadline to David De Gea to make a decision if he will remain at Old Trafford going forward.
According to Daily Mail citing The Sun, the Spanish goalkeeper’s present deal at the Theater of Dreams expires in the summer of 2020, but has been offered a £350,000-a-weekly contract extension.
