Passenger accidentally opens plane's emergency door thinking it was the toilet

A UK-Pakistani flight was subjected to mass delays after a passenger inadvertently opened the emergency exit door thinking it was a toilet.

The incident, which happened moments before the flight took off, led to severe delays in Manchester.

Reports from the UK media indicated the lady passenger engaged the L5 door at the rear of the aircraft thinking it would lead to an adjacent bathroom.

The slight mishap from the passenger ended up costing the Pakistan International Airlines flight 702 seven hours.

According to a spokesperson, the incident happened when the fasten seat belts signs were on , although all passengers were confirmed safe.

As a result, the flight, which was scheduled to depart Manchester at 9:20pm on Friday, landed more than seven hours late at 4.10pm on Saturday afternoon.

After the emergency exit was activated, all passengers had to be evacuated from the plane as it was not fit to fly till 5:00am the following morning.

The PK702 was not the only one affected as the delayed flight scheduled filtered down to other flights and the UK airport had to issue a statement on the same.

“We regret the delay of PK702, caused due to a passenger opening the emergency door. We strongly urge passengers to follow security instructions as such mishaps result in inconvenience of hundreds of other passenger," the airport said in a statement.

It was, however, too little too late as irate passengers took to Twitter to lament on “poor service”.

Because of the loss of the exit slide, the plane lost its evacuation capacity and was forced to depart with 38 less passengers.

This was yet another bizarre plane incident which cost travelers hours of flight time , and it came only a month after another strange incident which saw a plane land without the front wheel in Myammar.

The plane had to make an emergency landing at the Mandalay airport in Myanmar after the landing gear failed to deploy on May 13.

In another incident in Jacksonville Florida, at least 136 passengers and seven crew members on a Boeing 737 plane escaped from the jaws of death after the jet skid into St Johns River.
