- He is now the latest top player who was unable to dribble past the Liverpool defender

Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo has joined the League of superstars who have failed to dribble past Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk.

This comes after the Juventus forward found it difficult to dribble Van Dijk even though his country Portugal defeated Netherlands 1-0 in the final of the Nations League.

World class players like Lionel Messi, Eden Hazard and Kylian Mbappe have all tried and failed to successfully take on the giant Dutchman.

Lionel Messi faced Van Dijk in the Champions League semifinal where they met twice, but the Argentine was unable to go past him in any of the two games.

Eden Hazard who recently made a big move to Real Madrid from Chelsea also came one on one with Van Dijk last season in the Premier League, but was unable to find his way.

In May, it was believed that Manchester United youngster Marcus Rashford was the only one who successfully dribbled Van Dijk.

However, it was later revealed the PFA Players' Player of the Year failed to attempt a tackle and therefore the England man's success didn't count.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Virgil van Dijk is tipped to become the next defender after Fabio Cannavaro to win the Ballon d’Or, says Dutch star Ryan Babel.

The Liverpool centre-back enjoyed a memorable 2018-19 campaign, but suffered a defeat to Portugal in the Nations League final.
