Super Falcons of Nigeria on Saturday night, June 8, began their campaign at the 2019 Women's World Cup in France with an embarrassing 3-0 defeat against Norway.
Norway started the match impressively from the blast of the whistle as they mesmerized the Super Falcons till the end of the match.
Nigeria conceded the first goal in the 17th minute when Gur Reiten scored for Norway after receiving a superb assist from Caroline Graham.
Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala almost restored parity for Nigeria in the 22nd minute when she gained possession from a long ball by Onome, but she blasted over the bar.
Norwegian women scored their second goal in the 33rd minute through Lisa Marie and it was Gur Reiten who assisted the goal.
Six minutes later, things turned sour for the Super Falcons as defender Ohale Osinachi netted an goal to give Norway a three-goal lead inside the first 40 minutes.
Norway took the lead in the first half and the expectation of Nigerians was that the Super Falcons would soar in the second half, but they could not as the match ended 3-0.
Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how the 2019 Women's World Cup started on Friday, June 7, when the hosts France played South Korea in what was a tough opening match.
Women's 2019 World Cup in France is expected to be played for a month in which the final of the championship will be played in Lyon on July 7.
24 nations will take part in the tournament which splits across six groups of four.
