- A PDP senatorial candidate, Garba Dahiru, calls on INEC to issue him and four House of Representatives candidates certificate of return in compliance with a court order
- Dahiru says a court had directed the commission to issue certificates of return to candidates that came second in the Bauchi south senate seat and the four federal constituencies in the elections
The PDP senatorial candidate for Bauchi south, Garba Dahiru and four House of Representatives candidates have urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to obey a court order directing it to issue them with certificates of return.
Daily Trust reports that Dahiru in a press conference disclosed that the order was given by Justice Bello Kawu on May, 16, 2019 on suit No. FCT /HC/CV/988/2019.
The senatorial candidate stated that INEC should comply with the order which directed the commission to issue certificates of return to candidates that came second in Bauchi south senate seat and the four federal constituencies in the elections.
Meanwhile, INEC on Friday, June 7, reacted to the judgement of the Federal High Court, Abuja which ruled that Rochas Okorocha be awarded his certificate of return as a senator-elect.
INEC had refused to acknowledge Okorocha’s victory in February because the returning officer was reportedly made to announce the result under duress.
Also, an Imo state high court upheld INEC’s decision not to issue Okorocha a certificate of return to acknowledge his victory as the senator-elect for Imo West Senatorial District.
But Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court ruled that INEC has no reason not to issue Okorocha certificate of return.
