- Gianluigi Buffon has emerged as summer target for Spanish champions Barcelona
- The 41-year-old Italian goalie recently left French club Paris-Saint-Germain after a season
- Barcelona want Buffon as back-up for current number one Marc-Andre ter Stegen
Reigning Spanish champions Barcelona are reportedly ready to sign veteran Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon after leaving Paris-Saint-Germain on a free transfer.
After spending 17 years at Juventus, Buffon moved to Paris-Saint-Germain last summer where he spent only one season before he left.
Buffon made 25 appearances in all competitions for PSG as Thomas Tuchel’s men won the Ligue 1 title by 16 points.
According to the report by UK Sun, Paris-Saint-Germain chiefs were interested in extending Buffon's contract at the club, but the Italian preferred to leave.
Barcelona now want to explore the chance of Buffon being without a club presently and sign him as back-up for Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
Jasper Cillessen who is Barcelona's second choice goalie is close to joining Benfica after making just five La Liga appearances in the last three years.
However, Paris-Saint-Germain chiefs are now said to be targeting Manchester United goalie David De Gea as replacement for Buffon.
Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Gianluigi Buffon announced that he will be leaving French champions Paris Saint-Germain thereby not returning for a second season at the club next campaign.
In July 2018, the Italian goalkeeper joined PSG and went on to make 25 appearances in all competitions for the club as they won the Ligue 1 title.
