Kalu hails Buhari over Goje’s withdrawal from Senate presidency race

- The senator-elect and former governor of Abia state, Orji Uzor Kalu, says he is optimistic that he and Senator Ahmed Lawan will lead the 9th Senate

- Kalu commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his intervention that led to Senator Danjuma Goje's withdrawal from the Senate presidency race

The senator-elect for Abia North senatorial district, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his intervention that led to Senator Danjuma Goje's withdrawal from the Senate presidency race.

Kalu, who is the former governor of Abia state, also hailed Senator Goje for dropping his Senate presidency ambition after meeting with the president, The Sun reports.

Legit.ng gathers that the senator-elect described President Buhari's intervention as being timely, appropriate and highly commendable.

Kalu, who spoke with a cross-section of APC supporters in Lagos on Thursday, June 6, said he was optimistic that he and Senator Ahmed Lawan would emerge as Senate president and deputy Senate president, respectively.

He said: “I salute President Muhammadu Buhari for meeting with Governor Ahmed El-Rufai, senator Ahmad Lawan and Goje in the interest of APC and Nigeria at large.

“The decision of senator Goje to drop his senate presidency ambition, in order to support senator Lawan is a welcome development.

“I am optimistic that senator Lawan and myself have the capacity to steer the affairs of the red chamber."

Kalu called on President Buhari to intervene in the war between the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomole and his predecessor, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that a pressure group within the All Progressives Congress (APC) identified as Urhobo Political Group, endorsed senator-elect for Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, for the position of deputy Senate president in ninth Senate.

The group made the decision through a unanimous voice vote during its meeting held at Ughelli, Delta state.

According to the coordinator of the group, Jerry Uloho, the senator-elect was endorsed because of his integrity and track record of performance while he held sway as governor of Abia state.
