Oshiomhole receives vote of confidence as APC deputy national chairman faces probe

- 28 chairmen of the APC in Nigerian states pass vote of confidence on Adams Oshiomhole at an NWC meeting

- The state chairmen of the APC want Nigerians to disregard all the allegations against Oshiomhole

- The politicians said they were further enlightened on issues within the party at the meeting

Amid the crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) currently, 28 chairmen in states of the federation have passed a vote of confidence on Adams Oshiomhole to continue to lead the party.

The confidence vote came at a time some senior members of the party called for Oshiomhole’s resignation for the alleged failures of the party in the 2019 general elections, especially in Zamfara and Rivers.

Daily Trust reports that the development was confirmed by the chairman of the APC in Enugu state and secretary of the forum of APC state chairmen, Ben Nwoye.

Nwoye, who spoke with journalists after a meeting with the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Comrade Oshiomhole, asked that all the allegations against the national chairman of the party should be disregarded.

Speaking on the outcome of the meeting, Nwoye said: “In attendance were 21 States and seven sent excuses and apologies. We met with national chairman of our great party in company of members of NWC.

“We talked on relevant issues to the party. We discussed in details on party unity. At the end of the meeting, we were informed fully on party issues and unity of the party.

“Based on the information we have and the readiness of national chairman to lead this country to the ‘Next Level’, we have all unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the person of the national chairman and the NWC.”

Nwoye noted that Oshiomhole remains the chairman of the APC and described him as a strong leader.

“He has all it takes to lead this party to the Next Level’,” he said.

It was learnt that Senator Lawal Shuaibu, the APC deputy national chairman, who is currently being investigated for asking Oshiomhole to resign, was absent at the meeting.

Legit.ng earlier reported that former national chairman of the APC, John Odigie-Oyegun, on Tuesday, June 4, alleged that his successor, Adams Oshiomhole, ran the most fraudulent primaries in the history of politics in Nigeria.

Odigie-Oyegun made the allegation while reacting to an earlier statement by the national publicity secretary of the party, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, which described the erstwhile chairman’s era as a replica of the undisciplined style of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
