- Adebayo Shitti says the North is free to contest for the 2023 presidency as far as it presents qualified candidates
- The former communications minister said he has always rooted for competent people even though he has never been an apostle of zoning
- Shittu noted that Nigerians voted for President Buhari because of his pedigree, not because of where he comes from
The North is free to contest for the 2023 presidency as far as it presents qualified candidates, says the immediate past minister of communications, Adebayo Shittu.
Shittu made the comment during a chat with journalists in Abuja on Thursday, June 6, Vanguard reports.
Legit.ng gathers that the former minister said he has always rooted for competent people even though he has never been an apostle of zoning.
He said: “Honestly, as far as I am concerned, when you talk of national politics, every party must allow for primary election. Whoever is able to emerge should be the candidate.
“The constitution does not talk of zoning with regards to presidential election. What the constitution says is wherever the president comes from; the vice president should come from another part of Nigeria.
“So, it is not about North or South. We did not vote for Buhari because he is from the North. We voted for him because of his pedigree.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that former communications minister, Adebayo Shittu, insisted that injustice and impunity perpetrated by the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adam Oshiomhole, cost the party many things in Oyo and other states.
Shittu said Oshiomhole’s exit is necessary to avoid the APC going down in 2023.
“God has a way of ensuring that people are punished for their mischief, for their injustices and all that,” Shittu, who was disqualified from participating in the APC primary in Oyo state, said.
